Western music teaching in schools is a relatively recent phenomenon. As such, there are very few resources, materials, and networking possibilities for music teachers who are new to the profession and even for those who are experienced. western music teacher training and exposure to its implementation is severely lacking in India, and opportunities for professional development are few and far between for those in the field.

One goal of this conference is to provide an opportunity for teachers of western music in the Delhi area to meet with each other to network and share ideas, questions, problems, and so forth. Another goal is to offer professional development topics that are sorely needed by these teachers in their every day work. Many of these topics will note have been addressed during their music training college courses, but are highly relevant in their working lives. Additionally, a conference provides a space for vendors of materials and local music resources, providing much needed support and information for music teachers.
